Chinese Bottled-Water Maker, Zhong Shanshan, Becomes Asia's Richest Person

Zhong Shanshan, a Chinese billionaire, has replaced Mukesh Ambani as Asia's richest person with a net worth of $77.8 billion. He is also the 11th-richest person in the world, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index (BBI).

Zhong has had a versatile career across journalism, mushroom farming and health care. The BBI reports it to be one of the fastest accumulations of wealth in history.

Zhong, 66, is not well-known outside of China and has no political involvements and no alignments with other Chinese tycoons regarding his business affair, earning him the tag of "lone wolf".

His business interest span across two very disparate fields vaccine and bottle-water. He is the owner of Beijing Wantai Biological Pharmacy Enterprise Co. and Nongfu Spring Co., which sells bottle-water.

Another reason for Zhong's rise is the fall of the Chinese tech companies as they came under the government's radar.  Before Zhong, the richest Asian was Mukesh Ambani who had dethroned Chinese e-commerce giant owner Jack Ma ($51.2 billion).
