Ericsson Hires Workforce Of Niche AI For Its India Centre

Swedish multinational networking and telecommunications company Ericsson has acquired high-tech engineers from Niche AI for its Bengaluru-based artificial intelligence (AI) centre and looking out for more technical talent for acquihiring.

The development is a part of Ericsson's plan to build a team of about 300 highly qualified engineers in Global Artificial Intelligence Accelerator (GAIA) by the end of 2019 of which 50 per cent of this team would working from India itself.

According to Sanjeev Tyagi, Head of Ericsson R&D Bengaluru, the company is looking for both organic hiring, one by one through recruitment off the market, as well as inorganic, which is more through acquisitions and acquihires (acquiring only talents).  The Indian wing of GAIA was launched in 2018 to develop an open-source solution to modernise communications network, with the help of AI and machine learning.

So far Ericsson has hired nearly 75 engineers from Bangalore and Chennai and a couple of dozen more are anticipated to join in the upcoming months as they continue to employ more.

The Swedish telecom gear maker is hiring from companies for GAIA and not their assets like patents, clients etc. The companies (for acquiring) are evaluated on the basis of several parameters, such as size, primary competence, engineering capabilities and others.
